Coming Soon: History Summit 2021!

What Is It:

History Summit is a day long, asynchronous, online book festival. Historians share a brief video introducing their book on the website historysummit.com and then engage in conversation online on Twitter. The goal is to share fantastic new books and cultivate a passionate history community while we are all still stuck at home and traditional book launches aren’t possible.

How It Works:

Each historian prepares a video in advance about their book. It can be a brief introduction about their subject, an interview with a friend or colleague, or a deeper dive about one aspect of the book. Creator’s choice! All videos will go live at 9 AM ET on Friday, March 12.

All historians will then be available during the day to answer questions on Twitter, respond to each other’s videos, and engage in generally awesome history conversation.

You can see how last year’s videos worked on the website: https://www.historysummit.com/ and check out the conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #historysummit.

Who Is Eligible to Participate:

  • Any historian with a new book published between September 2020—May 2021

  • A diverse selection of topics and authors will be selected (and is encouraged!)

  • Author participants must have a Twitter account (an ideally an active one!)

  • Anyone is welcome and encouraged to view videos and participate in conversation

Other Details:

  • Authors will send host (Dr. Lindsay Chervinsky) a short bio, links to social media and their book, a headshot as soon as possible (but no later than March 5)

  • Authors will send their videos to Dr. Chervinsky by March 11

  • Authors should plan to check in on Twitter several times during the day on March 12 to answer questions and encourage other authors as well.

How to Join:

Send Dr. Lindsay Chervinsky an email (drlindsaychervinsky [at] gmail [dot] com) or a DM on Twitter (@lmchervinsky) with a brief message about why you want to participate and a link to your book. I’ll try and include as many authors as possible! Once I compile a roster, I’ll send out more details with suggested tools and tips.

Organization or Publisher?

Publicists, presses, and others are welcome to share suggested authors, but authors must participate themselves on March 12.

Organizational and press support is very welcome and encouraged. We are very grateful for your efforts to amplify the event and if you’re interested in sponsoring the event (to help cover costs and promote online), please reach out. I’d love to chat more about how we can make the event the best possible for all authors!
